2. Educational materials, including
a marketing DVD aimed at
teenage black learners, posters
and booklets as well as guidance
material for the practice will
be prepared by the Faculty of
Veterinary Science in conjunction
with local educational experts.
3. Veterinarians from the partici
pating practices will join with local
state veterinarians and veterinary
students to visit the selected
schools, talk about animal health
and veterinary matters and, with
assistance from the teacher(s),
identify a small group (ten per
school) to visit the practice and
learn more about the work and
role of a veterinarian.
4. Two learners per school will be
selected from this group and
offered the opportunity to see
practice over the lifetime of the
project. They will also be invited
to visit the Veterinary Faculty twice
to learn more about veterinary
science, meet students and
participate in the Junior Tukkie
programme (University of Pretoria
programme to support learners
with academic potential through
their late school years and into
university life).
