A
small parcel
travels halfway
across the world,
reaching a desk
on a Pacific island
where it waits for someone to return…
Part One: Nobody on the islands could
say they saw him arrive, or when, and,
afterwards, none of them could say
they saw him go either, and that’s what
made the chief of police pretty fed up
during his investigation. Mid 1970s:
A young pakeha – white man – with a
burdened past appears on Tonga. The
wayfarer’s sojourn in the region sees
him joining the crew on a shark-fishing
boat; he faces situations that challenge
his past and his hidden talents; he falls
in love; a sea pinnacle off the coast
captivates him, until that fateful day…
Part Two: The author visits the
Himalaya of Nepal several times
between 1992 and 2008; he
learns of some apparently
unrelated and unresolved
events that occurred over
two decades previously, and
encounters some intriguing
people, including the
enigmatic storyteller, Cullen.
Part Three: Cullen relates
his story of a private
Himalayan expedition, the
events leading up to it, its
dramatic culmination and the
repercussions.
Exactly who the wandering
pakeha and Cullen are
remains a question, though
discerning readers might link the
fleeting clues that sprinkle the book,
and reach their conclusions.
...Then the small parcel is opened.”
“This very human true-life drama
weaves a story of adventure, love
and tragedy, and the author toys with
and marries these elements in his
tantalising style.”
–
Vanessa Finaughty,
who edited the manuscript for Reach
Publishers.

A most enjoyable, riveting novel.”
“A magical mystery tour!”
“A must read, can't put down: delightful, cleverly crafted, weaved and sutured story; told by a many talented veterinary
surgeon who can write, that is for sure! Just like an unforgettable wine, the South Pacific or the Himalayas, it will linger,
with you, mysteriously, for a long time. Who is 'Teemu Cullen' then? Could it be T.T.C?”
