I
grew up in a typical
Mediterranean family that
created a very sheltered
existence. Part of my upbringing
was my family’s constant
worrying over me and making sure
that I was protected from as many
things as possible. One of the many
things that contributed towards my
parents’ need to raise me the way
they did is because they had made
certain assumptions about me and
the world around me. They had made
assumptions about what I was capable
of, what I needed and when, etc.
In order for me to help you minimise
or remove as many of the potential
obstacles you may have towards
achieving your goals, I need to make
certain assumptions and they are as
follows:
• Our past, present and future is
about choices – I want to provide
you with new choices and
resources to use that will allow you
to realise your true potential.
• The past does not dictate the
future. The past cannot be
changed but the future can.
• There is no such thing as failure,
only feedback; there are no
mistakes, only results. Without
failure and mistakes learning would
be impossible. Living is learning.
• The response that you get is your
responsibility. If you are not getting
the response you want, it's your
responsibility to change your
approach until you do. Einstein
told us that we do the same thing
over and over again and expect a
different result, we are insane.
• You are not broken. You are
perfectly well. You do not
need to be fixed.
• You have all the resources
and skills to make any change
you want. Most of the time,
these resources are within us.
More often than not, uncovering
and eliminating destructive
behavioural and thinking patterns
in itself is an extremely powerful
resource.
• People make the best decisions
given the resources that they have.
• All external behaviour is the result
of an internal process. Peoples’
actions tells me what they are
thinking.
• Our perception of reality is not
reality. It is, however, real to us.
We perceive the world through
multiple filters of our past
experiences and associations with
events.
• Flexibility is King. The person with
the most behavioural flexibility
will be in control under any given
situation. Emotional intelligence
has been recognised over the
years as more valuable than the
measure of our IQ.
• The meaning of your
communication can be found
in the response you receive,
regardless of your intention when
you communicate. It is not the
listener's responsibility to 'get' the
message as you intended it.
• The highest quality of information
in any interaction is behavioural.
Listen to the body, not the words.
• The mind and body are parts of
the same cybernetic system.
• People communicate on two
levels; the conscious and the
unconscious. Accessing both
levels will reveal much more
information.
• Driving every behaviour is the
positive intent either to gain
pleasure or avoid pain. They are
the great motivators of everything
we do.
• Success leaves clues. If you do
what other people have done you
will get similar results.
• We do not operate directly on
our world, but rather through our
perceptual 'maps' of the world.
The map is what we believe the
world to be and how it works.
Information that relates to our
perceptual map is entertained
and possibly accepted/adopted,
while incongruent information is
generally discarded and ignored.
• Providing you with empowering,
specific tools and scientifically
tested techniques that work can
have a significant impact on your
life, your ability to achieve your
goals and your approach to life.
• Ultimately, it is not important
what I believe about you and your
abilities, but what you personally
think about yourself that will make
all the difference. I am merely
facilitating the process.
Consider all of the above and
understand that accepting or rejecting
any of them can have a vitally
