We honour their contribution to our profession and society in general and pray that their families and loved ones will find the strength to carry them through these times of bereavement. I once submitted an article to our local monthly newspaper Unfortunately, a printer’s gremlin played “silly-buggers” and the crucial penultimate paragraph was omitted. This left the piece hollow and as good as meaningless. When next I bumped into the editor in the Spar, I gave him the gears! “Oh, it’s alright for you vets. You bury your mistakes. We journalists publish our mistakes!” He moaned. For once in my life, I had a quick retort. “No! You’ve got that wrong. Sure, you journalists publish your mistakes. It’s the medical doctors who bury their mistakes. We country vets EAT our mistakes!” v Dr Tod Collins
