VN January 2024

January 2024 27 Normally the foundation will award only two bursaries every year, one bursary for the 4th and 5th year students. This year (2023), we awarded four bursaries to four recipients since it was not possible to award bursaries in 2022. The fifth-year recipients could not be at the meeting since they are now in the 2nd semester of their 5th year and normally, they are in various clinical rotations, this depends on how busy the clinics are, and some clinical rotations are conducted outside the faculty campus. The students were indeed grateful for this work done by the SAVF. They also pledged their support for the bursary funds in the future. Special thanks to Lakato (Pty) for their continued work to support veterinary-owned businesses to thrive and keep on serving the clients through the veterinary medicine that they supply. We also want to thank the Seria family for their commitment to supporting the SAVF bursary fund annually. We trust that future veterinarians will keep the legacy of this family and their beloved pet, the dog Da Vinci, alive by continuing to save the lives of other pets and continuing to do research that will solve the mystery of phaeochromocytoma treatment. The students were further entertained with prize-giving quizzes that included sponsored books by Afrivet and some chocolates from SAVF. We want to thank the faculty for allowing us to speak to the students and use their facilities. We appreciate the opportunity for this important collaboration. v Ms Cecilia van der Walt, Dr Quixi Sonntag, Ms Laurie Aucamp SAVF
