VN April 2023

Vetnuus | April 2023 28 An initiative of the SOUTH AFRICAN VETERINARY ASSOCIATION Non-profit Company: 1998/016654/08 Non-profit Organisation: 000-234 NPO Public Benefit Organisation: 130001321 With over 1 million healthy animals estimated to be euthanised in SA every year simply as there are not enough homes, it is outreaches like these into communities who don’t have regular access to any veterinary care that make a huge difference. Every quarter we try to schedule at least 1 to 2 outreaches (depending on funding) but this quarter we managed three, with a weekend in both Rosendal (4 & 5 February 2023) and Paul Roux (4 & 5 March 2023) made possible by grant funding received from The Davies Trust Foundation. We also celebrated World Spay Day (28 February 2023) by hosting a sterilisation outreach in Kgubetswana, Clarens that was sponsored by a private individual. In total, during these 5 days we achieved the following: - 99 sterilisations - 588 Rabies vaccinations - 156 multivacs for both cats and dogs - 666 tick and flea treatments - 339 animals were dewormed (including a couple of horses) - 37 other treatments - We also handed out just over 300kgs of food As you can see from the above numbers, the team work incredibly hard during these outreaches. It is back breaking work for a veterinary team of only 3 with a handful of volunteers from vets to vet technicians that reach out to come and assist us as and when CVC News I CVC Nuus Q1Outreaches for the Cluny Animal Trust Veterinarians: Dr Lee Pachonick and Dr Elsa van Biljon
