VN September 2024

Vetnews | September 2024 28 « BACK TO CONTENTS As a CVC, when a CCS vet gets allocated to us, we really want to ensure that we make the year count and expose them to as many different situations as possible. Each year, in celebration of Mandela Day, we always try to do something a little different. So, this year, we asked our CCS vet, Dr Karla, if she would be willing to take on the challenge of sterilising 67 animals in one week and we were thrilled when she agreed. In actual fact, she sterilised 68, which as a CCS vet, in her first year…is an amazing accomplishment. Dr Elsa, our Principal Veterinarian, and her mentor for the year helped out with the rest. By the Friday, her hands were sore, and she was exhausted, but we snapped this picture, and she still gave us a wonderful smile when she was done! We also need to acknowledge the rest of our team; we had a lot of extra work to make this happen and we still kept up with our normal work load, which was remarkable. A long but a truly fantastic week that has allowed us to make a difference to the lives of many animals and their owners. We are sure that Madiba would be proud of our efforts. The ripple effect that this week of steris is going to have on controlling the animal population in our community is significant and we are so glad to have been a part of that with Dr Karla’s help. v An initiative of the SOUTH AFRICAN VETERINARY ASSOCIATION Non-profit Company: 1998/016654/08 Non-profit Organisation: 000-234 NPO Public Benefit Organisation: 130001321 CVC News I CVC Nuus 83 ANIMALS STERILISED IN CELEBRATION OF MANDELA DAY AND 68 OF THEM WERE STERILISED BY OUR CCS VET, DR KARLA OLIVIER By Imogen Tarita of the Cluny Animal Trust
