VN October 2024

Vetnews | Oktober 2024 34 « BACK TO CONTENTS 23 and 24 August 2024 By: Adrian Lotriet This year marks the 100th anniversary of OP Village, the residence at Onderstepoort. Other than being the 100th year of existence at OP village, it is more specifically the 100th year of existence of Old Res, the initial residence building. Since its beginning in 1924, Old Res has become a society for young men studying Veterinary Science who strive to be involved and excel in all activities associated with the residence, whilst balancing this with a healthy social calendar. To celebrate this milestone, the current members invited all Old Res alumni to a weekend of celebrations. Many members of the Veterinary industry were in attendance such as Dr. Kabols le Richie, dr. Fanus Kritzinger and prof. Johan Schoeman along with many other alumni. Members, old and new, took part in a braai, a bowls day and finally a spit roast. Many memories and humoristic tales were shared among the gentleman of Old Res. It has become clear that a healthy amount of what can only be described as humoristic mischief has been a big part of every Old Res member’s time in the building. Despite 100 years of existence, it would seem as though the experience of living in the building has remained, at its core, the same: Spending half a decade with some of your closest friends as your neighbours, making the best of the opportunities that life has granted you and having an overdose of fun in between. v Old Res 100 Year Reunion
