November 2023 39 4. Hotz-Celsus Procedure: The Hotz-Celsus procedure involves making a semilunar partial-thickness incision in the eyelid over the distance of the entropion, followed by sutures to evert the eyelid margin. This method is especially useful when dealing with severe entropion or when there is significant excess eyelid tissue. It is a procedure that may correct most entropions. 5. Blepharoplasty: In some cases, especially when there is excessive skin or redundant tissue contributing to entropion, a blepharoplasty may be performed. This procedure involves the removal of excess skin and tissue from the eyelids to reshape and reposition them properly. 6. Canthoplasty: Canthoplasty is a surgical technique that involves altering the shape of the outer corner (canthus) of the eyelids. By changing the angle at which the eyelids meet, this procedure can help correct entropion. The arrowhead approach is a very useful method for many lateral canthus entropions. 7. Pagoda or Diamond Eye entropion: In breeds that have extremely loose facial skin and lack lateral canthus stability, one could consider the procedure where the width of the surgical wound should approximate the amount to effect correction of the entropion. Two myotomies are performed with their bases at the lateral canthus. These strips of muscle will form the new lateral canthal ligament. After subcutaneous dissection with scissors, the pedicle of the orbicularis oculi is secured by a cruciate suture to the periosteum of the zygomatic arch by a simple interrupted, 5‐0 nonabsorbable suture. The skin layers are opposed by simple interrupted sutures. 8. Redundant skin folds and secondary entropion: Redundant skin folds around the eye, complicated by heavy ears, usually do not directly irritate the eye, but cause pressure on the lid margins and canthi, resulting in medial and upper lid entropion and trichiasis. In breeds such as the Bloodhound, Chow Chow, and Shar Pei, the elderly English Cocker Spaniel, Basset Hound, English Bulldog, and Pug, the wrinkles may cause serious eye problems.
