VN July 2023
Vetnuus | July 2023 4 While doom-scrolling on Facebook a while back, I came upon a video that made me stop and think. I briefly summarise it below. "Every person gets a full 24 hours per day. Apply the 8+8+8 rule to make a good balance sheet for your life. 1. 8 hours of hard work 2. 8 hours of good quality sleep 3. 8 hours should be spent on the following: a. 3 F's b. 3 H's and c. 3 S's The Three F's are Family, friends and Faith The Three H's are Health, Hygiene and Hobby The Three S's are Soul, Service and Smile" Then Dr Mike Lowry's piece for the month came along, and I realised that theory very seldom reflects the practice in anybody's life. The above can only be regarded as a guideline but not a norm by which one can be judged or should judge others. I found a lot of motivation in the Community Service stories of Dr Veon Kuhn. He stepped out of his comfort zone and made the best of his Community Service year. This time of year is a low time for the CommServ vets, and I hope that many can get some motivation out of his experience. The work that CVC – the Community Veterinary Clinics, are also very inspirational when you deal with lots of work and very few resources. It takes only one very grateful client to brighten up a day where you had some failures or difficult liaisons. Keep up the good work. If youmanage towork some of the guidelines into your day: Good for you; if not, tomorrow is another day. v Andriette From the Editor Editor’s notes / Redakteurs notas Andriette van der Merwe
