VN August 2023
Vetnuus | August 2023 30 I hope this article finds you and your families well and safe!!! Last month we discussed the concept of personal responsibility. Today we will touch on the concept of how the world reflects our inner thoughts and feelings. Here is a story to help demonstrate the principle: Once upon a time, there was a lost dog that ran into a museum . Somehow, the door was open and there were no obstacles. This museum was like no other. This museum was unique; every wall one looked at, the ceiling, all the doors and even the very floors that the dog walked on were made of mirrors . Everywhere the poor dog looked there was an image of himself and as he saw more and more of his reflections, the dog froze in surprise in the middle of the entrance hall. He could see a whole pack of dogs surrounding him from all sides, from above and below. At first, the dog did not understand what was going on. He was seeing dogs everywhere he looked and his instinct to fight was triggered. The stressed dog bared his teeth and barked at all the reflections, but the reflections responded to the barking in the same way. This frightened the dog and made him bark more frantically; he felt threatened. The dog’s heart was beating faster and faster the more he felt threatened. The dog’s reflections imitated the dog and increased it many times which created a lot of confusion. With the sudden burst of energy that was released, the dog barked even harder, but the echo was magnified , was it that adrenaline caused his sight, hearing, and other senses to become sharper? The dog ran from one side to another while his reflections also ran around showing their teeth. The next day , the museum security guards found the miserable, lifeless dog, surrounded by thousands of reflections of the lifeless dog. There was nobody to harm the dog. The dog died by fighting with his own reflections. The lesson to be taken out of this : The world we live in doesn’t bring good or bad experiences on its own. Everything that is happening around us reflects our thoughts, feelings, wishes and actions. We are continually shaping the world around us as a result of conscious and unconscious (yes, including those) thoughts. Reality is but a mirror reflecting our inner world. If we entertain distorted thoughts , and, at some level, we are all aware that they are distorted indeed, we need to correct them and align them with the truth. If you don’t, they are likely to lead you down the rabbit hole of self-perpetuating despair. The choice is ours tomake . Reality brings forth external conditions according to your thoughts. Silly but very true example: when most people are running late for an appointment, they tend to repeat the phrase “I am going to be late”, and inevitably that is what happens. Some people use the phrase“I am always late”which tends to make it a long-lasting conviction. Life is neither fair nor unfair . It merely provides confirmation of our thoughts as users and experiencers. “Since our experience of life is really an experience of Thought, the more we have on our mind, the more complicated everything seems, and the more the aperture of our consciousness tends to contract. Before we know it, all we can see when we look out into the world is our own thinking reflected back to us in the fun-house mirror of our own self-consciousness.” - author Michael Neill Wheneverwe contract the fluwhichmost of us havehadmany times throughout our lives, our predominant thought , I am presuming would be that we will become healthy again and recover fully. For the most part, that is true for most of us. That is to say that it is a result of our thoughts mirroring a new health consciousness. Albert Einstein said - “We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” The process of reflecting upon one’s day, thoughts, and feelings is a great tool that will allow us to examine opportunities to improve our conditions. The world is a big mirror. So, with this awareness, let’s strike a good pose! Next month, we will continue looking at responsibility and ideas for improving our quality of life and overall performance both at work and at home. v Influential Life Coaching THE DOG IN THE MUSEUM Dr Mats Abatzidis B.Sc.
