VN April 2023
Vetnews | April 2023 35 2. Handling embarrassment: psychological assessments done on countless people over time have shown that most people are embarrassed by things nobody else notices or remembers beyond the moment! People are too busy worrying about their own problems. Do not worry about what others think; instead, think about what you are learning, creating, and doing . 3. Handling setbacks: Failures and mistakes are integral to learning and growing . How often did you stand up and fall as a tod- dler before you learned to walk? Any growth chart will show periods of ups and downs—the winters and summers of nature. Countless people had failed repeatedly before they suddenly “emerged out of nowhere”. You can be among that number! There is tremendous power in what you believe. Everything we do is ultimately fuelled by what we believe. The challenge is to base our beliefs on truth , not emotions, fears, or incorrect observations. The fish in the aquarium formed a belief based on an incorrect view of reality. That happens to a lot of people. False beliefs, incorrect assumptions/conclusions, paralyzed emotions, discouragement, and despair. The good news is you are not a fish. You can think, reason, change, and overcome; adopt a new attitude, believe again, and try again! Your past does not need to be your future! Next month, we will continue looking at other concepts and ideas and improving our quality of life and overall performance both at work and at home. v Vet's Health I Life Coaching Ken Pettey: 082 882 7356, ken.pettey@gmail.com Aileen Pypers: 072 599 8737, aileen.vet@gmail.com Willem Schultheiss: 082 323 7019, willem.schultheiss@ceva.com Mike Lowry: 084 581 2624, mikelowry@sai.co.za The following SAVA members are available on the SAVA stress management hotline.
