Southern Free State and Northern Cape

The FS & NC Branch is a local affiliate of the South African Veterinary Association.

The FS&NC Branch of the SAVA is a non racial, non political mouth piece of the Veterinary Profession in the Free State and Northern Cape Provinces. Its strength lies in its members and all Registered Veterinarians of good standing in these Provinces are encouraged to enroll. Membership is also open for members of other regions who wish to take a more active role in our activities. It is the official communication channel between our members and the mother organization SAVA (national) that represents the veterinary profession in South Africa.

The FS & NC Branch of the SAVA represents all facets of the Veterinary Profession in the areas of the FS & NC that it covers. The branch management composition attempts to ensure representation from all spheres of the professional spectrum. However, this is at times difficult to achieve due to poor participation of some professional groups (i. e. state veterinarians). We are also involved in animal welfare and CVC activities, but this is done more in an informal way with members supporting NGO’s involved in Animal Welfare activities.

The committee continues to play an active role in organizing ongoing education (through Continuing Professional Development), promotion of the profession in its various forms, the resolution of disputes through mediation with Veterinarians and the Public, and the organization of social events.

The committee organizes an annual mini-congress over two days. This venture has been well attended by our members and supported by the industry partners and also attracts a good number of members from other neighboring branches, providing challenging yet practical CPD to the general practitioner.
